What is it?
Parkour (French - pronounced “par-core”) is a training discipline using movement that developed out of military obstacle training. Practitioners aim to quickly and efficiently overcome obstacles in their environment, using only their bodies and their surroundings to propel themselves; furthermore, they try to maintain as much momentum as is possible in a safe manner. Parkour can include running, climbing, swinging, vaulting, jumping, rolling, quadrupedal movement, and the like, depending on what movement is deemed most suitable for the given situation. It may be performed on an obstacle course, but is usually practiced in a creative, and sometimes playful, reinterpretation of urban spaces. Parkour involves seeing one's environment in a new way, and imagining the potentialities for movement around it.
Our Parkour program aims to first provide a basis of maneuvers the beginning parkour athlete can use to build upon in a creative manner, as well as provide the intermediate and advanced parkour athletes a safe place to attempt more difficult tricks. All of our parkour classes are taught on our gym floor, using mats, padded blocks, and other obstacles that give the feel of an urban environment - without the danger of cement or concrete. Everything is padded, carpeted, or attempted onto a soft, squishy resi-pit. Our Parkour program is a great outlet for energy and appeals to a wide range of ages and abilities - everyone loves to run, jump, and flip! Classes will coincide with all of our other class programs, with the same discounted pricing, letting students do multiple sports at the same location and/or let siblings all come to the same place for different sports. Check out the schedule and add a parkour class this session!
